Information for Consumers
Price of Legal Services
Legal services are provided for remuneration; an attorney-at-law is entitled to request the client to pay an adequate advance beforehand. The amount of remuneration is determined by contract (agreement) with the client; according to particular circumstances it is usually agreed either on a time basis (i.e. pursuant to number of commenced hours or other time units necessary for provision of the service) or in a total amount for a particular package of services. Unless the remuneration of an attorney-at-law is set by a contract, it is determined by relevant provisions of Regulation of the Ministry of Justice No. 177/1996 Coll., the Lawyers' Tariff, as amended. In addition to remuneration, an attorney-at-law is entitled to reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses and compensation of lost time. Any invoiced amounts are increased by value-added tax.
Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes
According to Act. No. 634/1992 Coll., on Consumer Protection, as amended, a consumer is entitled to alternative resolution of a consumer dispute arising from a contract on provision of legal services. The authorised ADR entity for alternative resolution of consumer disputes between an attorney-at-law and a consumer from contract on provision of legal services is the Czech Bar Association (Česká advokátní komora); its website is www.cak.cz.
